New Blood Needed, But Old Is Good
Calling any and all fellow alumni to join the association
HAHSAA ISO new blood in the form of any and all Golden Tiger graduates.
For those of you who don't know what we're about, I give you the following:
In 1979 our stated purposes were basically to have fun; to be a meeting ground for all classes; to be a link between graduates and our Alma Mater.
As much as you'd like to believe, we are not responsible for organizing individual class reunions. That is up to the class officers of each class or those individuals who dare take on the challange. As an aside, I'd like to extend a thank you to Bobbi Miller and Ellen Hetrick (sorry I don't know your married name) for doing a bang up job for the Class of 1983.
But I digress. Since '79 this organization has also honored deserving alumni, educators and service groups and has sponsored a variety of scholarships. Through annual dues (now $5.00), donations, gifts, raffles and lifetime memberships (some 80 at $100.00) we have been able to:
1. Provide the seed money and continue financial support for the Holidaysburg Alumni Chorus and Alumni Band
2. Award at least two annual Alumni Association Scholarships of $250.00 to worthy and needy seniors
3. Make $500 contributions to Project Playpark, Discovery Garden (both in Legion Park) and Chimney Rocks Park
4. Start contributing to active school district drama groups
5. Contribute substantially to All Sports Booster Clubs and Chimrock Yearbook
6. Recognize some 90 Alumni, educators, individuals and organizations for distinguished contributioons to society
In addition to the aforementioned, we also sponsor annual social events --Alumni Picnic in October, the Annual Meeting and Dinner in May, the Alumni Golf Tournament in June and, the hopefully reinstated St. Patrick's Day Party.
As for the new blood, perhaps I should also call it "young blood". You see, the Association President and I represent the classes of '82 and '83 respectively. I'm not sure how many from the other classes of the last two or three decades have joined or participated in our various activities, but from what I have experienced, most of our membership represent earlier decades.
Please, won't you, our fellow alumni, join us. We meet every third Saturday of the month in room 58 of the High School (except during the summer--we are having the August meeting at the Heidleberg). This is an open invitation to fellow graduates to join us and bring fresh, spirited ideas to our group so that we can better serve our school, the community, and every Golden Tiger.
